History and Coverage
The Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (or JVP) was founded in 1980 at the
University of Oklahoma by Dr. Jiri Zidek,with financial support from the
University of Oklahoma Presidential Associates Fund; it was continued in 1984 by
the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. It publishes original contributions
on all aspects of the subject, including vertebrate origins, evolution, functional
morphology, taxonomy, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, paleobiogeography, and
paleoanthropology.

Editorial Staff
The Editorial Staff of the JVP is appointed by the Publications Committee and includes the Senior Editor, Receiving Editor, Memoirs Editor, Managing Editor, Book Reviews Editor, and Advertising Editor, working with an Editorial Board consisting of respected specialists in the various sub-disciplines of vertebrate paleontology.

Advertising space is available in the JVP and the book of annual meeting abstracts. The book of abstracts is shipped to all subscribing members with the third annual issue of the JVP and is also distributed to all non-member meeting attendees. The Journal is included in the ISI Science Citation Index. In 2005 the Journal had an Impact Factor of 1.649, an Immediacy Index of 0.157, and a Cited Half-Life of 6.9.
